First manager named for Arun Crematorium in West Sussex
Adam Westwood has left a 33-year army career behind to become the first manager of a brand new crematorium in Yapton, West Sussex, which is due to open this summer.
Arun Crematorium, set just three miles north east of Bognor Regis will be serving the communities of Bognor Regis, Littlehampton, Selsey and Worthing.
The new crematorium is being developed by Westerleigh Group, one of the UK’s largest independent owners and operators of crematoria and cemeteries, with 38 other sites across England, Scotland and Wales, all set within beautifully-landscaped gardens of remembrance which provide pleasant, peaceful places for people to visit and reflect.
Adam, who was with the Royal Lancers Regiment, said being a soldier had always been his dream job, but was attracted to Westerleigh Group and the change of direction in his career after reading about the vacancy.
He said: “I thought to myself, this sounds like a great place to work, and I also liked the idea of helping people through a difficult time.
“I am excited because Arun is one of the most up-to-date crematoriums in the country, with a focus on the eco-side, from ultra-low emissions to wildlife grounds, where we can have beehives and wildlife ponds.
“Hopefully we can build relationships with local schools, who can visit our grounds for their school related projects. .
“I am looking forward to opening our doors to the local communities and providing local families with the exceptional levels of care that Westerleigh Group is renowned for.
“I want Arun Crematorium to be part of the community, to be the hub, and a place of peace. I am looking forward to helping Arun to provide a very positive presence in the area and to meeting and getting to know our neighbours.”
